Fans of The Young & The Restless were surprised when Melissa Ordway revealed that she had been taken off contract at the soap where she’s played Abby for over 11 years.

“I love you all,” Ordway declared. “Thank you for all the love and the support and for everyone who has followed me and my family and our Young & The Restless journey and just that come here every day and send love and support, I love you all and thank you so much.

“I honestly was not expecting the reaction I woke up to this morning with all the news outlets kind of taking the story and running with it,” she continued.

“It is true. I am no longer on contract but I am still on Young & The Restless. I am still playing Abby. It’s just in a different capacity.”

Ordway started her acting career with guest spots on shows like Entourage and How I met Your Mother and appeared in primetime sudsers Melrose Place and 90210 before taking over the role of Abby Newman on Y&R.

And despite dropping to recurring status with the soap, the actress hopes fans maintain their support for both her and the soap.

“So I hope that you continue to watch the wedding and the rest of the week,” Ordway urged. “I hope that Abby and Devon have an amazing love story with Dominic and more babies. I hope that I am there as much as I possibly can be. I hope that they continue to write for Abby.

I hope and pray for all of that. I am here for it. I love Abby. I love playing her. I want to be there. And bottom line, I love you guys. Thank you, thank you, for the love and support.”
