Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Billy Flynn leaves DOOL, decision shocks fans

This is not something we saw coming, but Billy Flynn is officially leaving Days of Our Lives — and heading over to The Young and the Restless!

TV Insider broke the news, with Flynn sharing that, “I am grateful for my years at Days; it changed my life in the best ways.

I’ve always said these stories we tell are like doing a play, and I’ve spent the last 10-plus years playing this amazing character and telling one of the all-time great love stories. And now I’m excited for this opportunity and to test myself in a new way.”

The actor took over the role back in September of 2014 from Casey Deidrick, and his tenure as the youngest DiMera sibling made him a fan favorite — especially when it came to his relationship with Abigail.

Her death in 2022 has driven much of Chad’s story ever since, from his attempts to move on with Stephanie, to being tricked by Cat and Clyde.

And we’ll readily admit that we’ve been so focused on the possibility of Abigail coming back to life that we never stopped to think that we could lose Chad!

With that said, this doesn’t necessarily mean we’re losing the character, as the show could opt to recast him once again.

Back in September, though, Flynn spoke with Soaps.com for his tenth anniversary, noting how much Chad’s life mirrored his own. So perhaps, as Flynn is leaving Salem, Chad might be as well.

If Chad does exit, our hope is that it’s not because of his death. Though with how much trouble the DiMera family tends to get into, we could see him ending up as collateral damage all too easily.

And while we admit, there would be something tragically poetic about joining his beloved Abigail in heaven, we’d really rather have them both safe and sound on earth, even if they don’t stick around Salem.

We guess all things must come to an end, but this one, at least, will also be a new beginning — though not an immediate one as Days of Our Lives shoots so far in advance, Chad will still be in Salem into 2026!

TV Insider shares that Flynn’s set to join Young & Restless in the spring as an entirely new character.

Executive producer Ken Corday shared with the publication that, “We support Billy as an actor and friend, and wish him nothing but continued success and happiness, personally and professionally.”

As Flynn shared with us back during his anniversary, “Being a DiMera is hard. But yeah, it’s been the opportunity of a lifetime to play Chad DiMera. I’m really grateful for it.”

We wish him the best, and while we sad to see Flynn leave Chad, we can’t wait to see what he brings to Genoa City!
