‘General Hospital’ Laura Wright Talks Sonny & Carly’s Future

General Hospital fans have seen Carly and Jack in a new relationship. However, she was once part of a supercouple with Sonny Corinthos and such a history isn’t so easily forgotten. Recently, Carly’s actress Laura Wright has opened up about the series and the future could have in store for Sonny and Carly.

Laura Wright Has Been Part Of General Hospital For Around 20 Years

Carly has been portrayed by a variety of actresses over the years. This has included Sarah Joy Brown, Tamara Braun, and even Eden McCoy in a flashback.

Since 2005, the character has been portrayed by actress Laura Wright. Prior to this, she appeared on other soaps including LovingThe City, and Guiding Light.

April has recently marked General Hospital’s 62nd anniversary. The soap is notably planning to honor late actress Leslie Charleson later this year, as well as also honoring her character through the Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Care Center. With this, many of the actors have been looking back at their time on the soap and what it means to them.

Recently, Laura Wright has spoken with Soap Opera Digest, especially looking at filming scenes with Sonny Corinthos, who had been her spouse at times over the years. The timing is also important for her, as she reaches her 20th anniversary playing Carly on the soap.

Wright started out talking about being involved in Charleson’s dedication, saying the event was “special.” She continued, “I get to work with people that I don’t usually work with on an everyday basis, because they sprinkle in different people from the cast together. There are a couple of scenes where everyone’s together, and that definitely feels special.”

It was touched on that Carly sees the memorial at the request of her daughter, Donna. As she noted, “Donna wants to go see the [memorial] wall, the wall of people who have passed away who made General Hospital so special. And then Felicia let’s Carly know, ‘We’re celebrating 62 years [since the hospital’s founding.]’”

Carly & Sonny Reunite At The Hospital Chapel

The characters soon remember Carly’s late mother Bobbie, who passed away last year. In time, Carly met with Sonny. The actress shared, “When Carly and Sonny run into each other, Carly’s in the chapel. And they talk about, ‘Wow, it’s been a long time [since we’ve been coming here].’ And Carly says that she doesn’t think of loss when she thinks of General Hospital.”

“She thinks of all the nurses and doctors and her mom and how they’ve taken care of so many people. So, it’s very emotional and I think just kind of perfect. It’s a bittersweet thing for Carly in that moment. I think that a hospital would be, especially a hospital chapel.”

“It’s a place where people are healed and there’s so much great success, but there are also people who find themselves in the chapel to pray that the people they love make it. They kind of talk about that.”

Wright mused that, no matter what, the two still have a connection. As she shared, “They’re family. And there is stuff coming up in a few weeks, stuff going on with Sonny, where Carly steps up, without a doubt, without a question, into a spot of support. They are family, whatever has happened in their romantic life, and no matter what, she’s got his back and vice versa.”
