Allison Lanier’s final episode aired on May 2 and left Summer’s storyline in an awkward place.
Summer took off for Italy since she needed to find some replacements for Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), but how long can that realistically keep her busy?
It’s not like Summer’s search for qualified applicants is going to take months and months of her time.
Plus, it doesn’t make sense for Summer to want to stay away from Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) for longer than absolutely necessary.
Summer’s Milan trip was fine as a temporary solution, but there ultimately needs to be a better explanation for her time off canvas.
Sources told SOD that there are no immediate plans to recast the role, though that could obviously change somewhere down the line.
With all that in mind, we should consider how Y&R will handle Summer’s lengthy absence.
What happens when this Italy trip excuse just doesn’t add up anymore?
After all, Summer asked Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) to wait until she got back to break the news to Harrison about his decision to live with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin).
It’s clear that Summer’s expecting to come home soon enough, but what might prevent her from doing that?
Summer may have her flaws, but she’s definitely a devoted mother.
There’s no way Summer would just abandon Harrison indefinitely, so there’ll have to be some sort of excuse to keep her out of the picture.
Perhaps Summer’s flight back to Genoa City could go horribly wrong and leave her loved ones fearing the worst.
Summer’s plane could go missing before it’s ultimately determined that it crashed and there are no signs of survivors.
It might be assumed that Summer perished in the wreckage, but it’d be a great setup for a recast Summer to show up alive down the road.
Summer might end up recovering with amnesia somewhere and set the stage for a soapy resurrection.
Just when Harrison has embraced Claire as his new mommy, Summer could come back home and give everyone a shock!
Maybe losing Summer could even shake up Kyle’s world and make him want a romantic reunion with her when she returns.
Whatever the case, Summer’s Milan trip can’t last forever, so could a plane crash on the way back to GC become a possible solution?
Despite Summer’s predictions about being home soon, her friends and family members could face a tough blow!
