Beyond the Gates Renewed for Season 2 Despite Ratings Trailing CBS Soaps Y&R and B&B
Beyond the Gates spoilers indicate some good news for the soap and its fans. After only three months on air, premiering this past Monday, February 24, CBS has decided to renew the daytime drama for another season.
The soap will continue to shatter glass ceilings in this genre, moving forward.
It already has had historic beginnings as the first daytime drama to debut in more than 25 years, and the first 60-minute Black-centric daytime drama ever to hit the airwaves.
Not too shabby considering fans have grown accustomed to seeing soaps cancelled and not premiering!
BTG’s debut certainly proved that soaps are far from being on the decline, and the soap’s other show on the CBS lineup embraced the new daytime drama right away.
Upon the big announcement, CBS also took the opportunity to share some data.
When comparing numbers to the same time last year, when The Talk was in the timeslot, BTG was up 48 percent in broadcasting viewership.
With that said, the show is still a little below its other CBS sister soaps when it comes to ratings.
The Bold and the Beautiful, which airs right before Beyond the Gates, averages 2.79 million viewers, while The Young and the Restless averages 3.29 million.
Beyond the Gates is currently at 1.82 million, which isn’t too bad, as it is still very new in the land of daytime drama.
It also may not help that it goes head-to-head in many regions with General Hospital, a well-established and highly popular daytime drama.
Still, it’s doing well as a brand-spanking-new soap, holding on strong with viewership, and things may only continue to go upward as fans get more comfortable with the land of Fairmont Crest and its storylines.
The daytime drama recently experienced its first big bombshell storyline, with Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) exposing her decades-old affair with Ted Richardson (Maurice Benard), also revealing he had a daughter, Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle), that he wasn’t aware of.
Of course, Leslie did this during Ted and his wife, Nicole Richardson’s (Daphnée Duplaix) anniversary party, causing a wave of chaos and destruction for many characters on the canvas.
Beyond the Gates spoilers suggest there is plenty more drama where that came from, and fans can rest assured knowing that their favorite new soap has another season ahead to build even more momentum.
