Yellowstone Kelly Reilly Deep-Dives Into The Series & What It’S Like Working With Kevin Costner

Kelly Reilly is best known for portraying Beth Dutton on the hit series “Yellowstone,” now airing its fourth season on the Paramount Network.
Reilly’s character, Beth, is the fiery daughter of cattle ranch owner John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner. Beth is a master manipulator, fiercely loyal to her father, and has an intense relationship with ranch foreman Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser.
The end of Season 3 left viewers on edge with Beth caught in an explosion, but the Season 4 premiere revealed she survived.

In an interview with Looper, Reilly discussed her role on “Yellowstone,” working with Costner and Hauser, and her hopes for the “1883” prequel. Reilly finds playing Beth both fun and terrifying, enjoying the character’s sharp dialogue and complex nature.

She loves that Beth says and does things most people wouldn’t dare to, making the role deeply satisfying and challenging.

This season, Beth is on a path of vengeance, determined to find and destroy whoever targeted her family. Additionally, she continues to protect her father’s ranch against those who want to turn it into a resort, embodying the spirit of defending her father’s dream at all costs.

Working with Kevin Costner has been a highlight for Reilly. She praises his generosity and the fun relationship they’ve built over the years. She admires his acting skills, especially his stillness and presence, and feels fortunate to learn from him through their scenes together.

Reilly also shares a special bond with Cole Hauser. The two have developed a close friendship, which enhances their on-screen chemistry.

Both actors are passionate about their roles and feel blessed to work together on characters they deeply care about. Their real-life friendship allows them to trust each other and delve deeply into their characters’ journeys.

Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly teases 'beautiful' ending but… | HELLO!

Reilly was already a fan of series creator Taylor Sheridan before joining “Yellowstone.” She admired his work on “Wind River” and “Sicario,” appreciating his dedication to telling authentic stories about cowboys and Native Americans.

Sheridan’s commitment to depth and heart in his storytelling assured Reilly that “Yellowstone” would be more than just a typical cowboy show.

Looking forward to the “Yellowstone” prequel, “1883,” Reilly is excited to see the origins of the Dutton family. She anticipates a rich, detailed narrative exploring the family’s lineage and their enduring fight for their land.

With a talented crew and actors like Sam Elliott involved, Reilly expects “1883” to be a compelling addition to the “Yellowstone” universe.

As for future roles, Reilly remains open-minded, always looking for something fresh and different. Although she enjoys playing strong, complex women like Beth, she avoids roles that are poorly written imitations of Beth.

Instead, she seeks characters that challenge her and keep her engaged, whether in film, television, or theater. Reilly’s commitment to finding roles that excite her ensures she continues to deliver powerful performances, much like her portrayal of Beth Dutton.
