‘DOOL’ James Read Says ‘Goodbye’, Clyde Killed Off?
For the time being, Salem could be saying goodbye to someone on Days of Our Lives. Recent storylines have impacted James Read, and his character, Clyde Weston, as well as their role on the series. The actor himself also recently talked about his time on the series.
Clyde Has Been A Part Of Days Of Our Lives Since 2014
Read first joined Days of Our Lives in 2014, playing the drug lord Clyde Weston. The character served as Ben Rogers’ estranged father and Jordan Ridgeway’s stepfather.
Read initially departed the series in 2015. However, Read would still continue to appear as the character throughout the years, effectively becoming recurring starting in 2019.
However, recent events on the soap are expected to see Read take a break from the series, at least for the time being. The series recently saw his character get shot by Catherina Greene. The incident left Clyde in a coma.
This left fans wondering about the character’s fate on the soap. However, as Soap Opera Digest noted, by the December 11 episode, Read “is out — at least for now.”
Read recently spoke to Deadline about his time on the soap and his departure. As he shared, “It’s been a fabulous run so far, only the soap gods know if it is meant to continue!” He continued, “I always think of Days as a family and have enjoyed every minute of working there since I started 10 years ago.”
James Read Himself Thought The Role Would Be ‘A Six-Month Thing’
Of course, as anything could happen in soap operas, fans suspect this might not really be the last they’ve seen of either Clyde or Read on the show. Taking to the comments, one fan even wrote, “Don’t worry he’ll be back even if it takes Dr. Wilhelm Roff to do it.”
Back in 2022, Read also spoke with Soap Opera Digest, noting how surprised he was that the character lasted so long on the series. As he noted, “I don’t think anybody thought Clyde would be long for Salem,” adding he initially thought of the role as “a six-month thing.”

As the publication noted, Read added that, “I was happy with that because I had never done daytime before, and I wasn’t sure I would like it. It was a way to get my feet wet and decide whether or not it appealed to me. It’s worked out great.”
As an actor, Read started his career in the 1980s, notably appearing in the North and South miniseries. He then became known to audiences as Victor Bennett on Charmed, taking the role from Anthony Denison. In this role, Bennett played the father of the three good witches, Pure, Piper, and Phoebe.
