‘DOOL’ Carson Boatman Reveals Anger With Sami, Not Ready To Forgive
Days of Our Lives fans recently saw Johnny DiMera learn a secret that has drastically impacted his relationship with his father EJ. Following this, he’s also become a suspect in EJ’s shooting. The character’s actor, Carson Boatman, recently talked about his character’s current arc. In particular, he talked about how this secret could impact his relationship and feelings towards his parents.
Carson Boatman Took On The Role Of Johnny DiMera On Days Of Our Lives In 2021
Carson Boatman is best known for playing Johnny DiMera on Days of Our Lives, first appearing in the role around 2021. Notably, Boatman took on the role after the character had been aged up, with him previously being played by sets of young twins. Prior to this, an older version of the character also appeared in a dream sequence, played by Mark Hapka, who would later go on to play Nathan Horton.
On the soap, Johnny is the son of EJ DiMera and Sami Brady, having been born after EJ took advantage of Sami. However, conflict has recently arisen after Johnny recently learned the dark secret about his parentage, turning him against his father. However, things become complicated after EJ is shot and put into a coma, all the while fighting for his life. Added to this, Johnny soon becomes a suspect in his father’s shooting.
Recently, Boatman himself recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about these recent events in Salem. In particular, he shared his character’s mixed feelings on EJ’s recent shooting.
As Boatman shared, “I don’t think Johnny’s too bothered by it. Johnny is a suspect, but it affects him, obviously, seeing his father [near death].”
Johnny Also Gets To Hear His Mother’s Side Of The Story
Boatman also admitted that being a murder suspect is more fun for an actor than it would be in real life. As he shared, “Well, you’re never happy to be a suspect in a murder case in real life, but on Days [of Our Lives] it’s kind of fun. It’s fun to be a part of something with high stakes.”
The actor also touched on moments when Johnny spoke with his mother, Sami, hearing her side of the story. As he shared, “Johnny has a moment with Sami where she kind of explains her side of the situation [of what transpired between her and EJ surrounding the rape].”
“That and seeing his dad [in the hospital] definitely softens Johnny a bit. But it’s not enough that he’s willing to change the fact that he doesn’t want to have a relationship with his father. He also doesn’t let the fact that he’s maybe softened a bit show on the outside, either.”
The Actor Also Touched On What It Was Like Working With Alison Sweeney Again
Boatman admitted, “I think having his mom tell him that she’s okay now helps Johnny a lot.” However, he still feels that Johnny has some lingering feelings of anger towards his mother for keeping this secret for so long.
The actor noted, “There’s some anger there, definitely, because she lied to him. She was part of a group of people who Johnny holds dear that lied to him about one of the most important things that there could be to lie to someone about.”

However, while the secret of Johnny’s birth changed his relationship with his father, Boatman doesn’t think it impacted his relationship with his mother. He noted, “If anything, he respects her more because of what she went through. She endured [the trauma of rape and Johnny’s subsequent birth] and made sure that it was about her kids. [She concentrated on] the happiness and safety of her kids.”
Boatman also touched on what it was like working with Sami’s actress, Alison Sweeney, again. He noted, “It’s always a pleasure working with her. I’m always excited when I hear that she’s coming back for another Sami stint in Salem. She’s such a great actor. So it’s fun for both of us. [Just to] be able to kind of feed off each other’s emotions and just work together.”
