DOOL’ Kyle Lowder Talks Rex Brady’s Return After 10 Years
Kyle Lowder returns to DOOL this week as Rex Brady. The actor opened up about what the show means to him after all these years. Keep reading to find out more about the character’s unexpected return to Salem.
Rex Brady Comes Home To Salem
Rex Brady is one of several characters DOOL fans can expect to see back in Salem this year. The show has gone above and beyond to bring back fan-favorite characters in honor of the show’s 60th anniversary.
Kyle Lowder returns as Rex Brady. He joined the show as Rex in 2018. The son of Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) and Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) was previously played by Eric Winter, who now stars in ABC’s primetime show The Rookie.
Rex wasn’t Kyle Lowder’s first role on DOOL, though. He played Brady Black from 2000 until 2005. The role is now played by Eric Martsolf. Rex lives in Chicago, but will make his way home this week.
Kyle Lowder’s return air date is on April 10. What brings Rex back to Salem? He was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Chicago and comes home to visit his parents. His mother is understandably worried, so Rex wants to assure her that he’s fine.
Kyle Lowder Shares Gratitude For Soap Opera Roots
Acting isn’t Kyle Lowder’s main career these days. He moved to Nevada in 2023 to be closer to his daughter, Isabella, whom he shares with his ex-wife and former co-star, Arianne Zucker.
After moving to Nevada, Lowder began a career as a news anchor with CBS affiliate KTVN. But he still finds time to return to DOOL if asked.
He told TV Insider that he’s still grateful for the show that gave him a chance when he was just 19. His role as Brady Black on DOOL was his first acting job.
“Every time I drive to the studio, I always have flashes of my 19-year-old self driving to the studio for the first time,” he said.
Kyle Lowder continued, “All these years later, I still felt like I was driving to a place that feels like home to me, and then you walk through the doors of the studio to familiar sights and sounds and smells and faces, and it’s like riding a bike.”
He was among the DOOL stars who shared a tribute to actor Drake Hogestyn after his unexpected passing in 2024.
He Teases Rex’s Future In Salem
Rex Brady’s return to DOOL is just for a short visit. But according to Kyle Lowder, fans can expect to see him back again someday.
“I’ve been told multiple times, in different ways, by multiple people running the show that I’m very much a part of the fabric of Days of our Lives,” he told TV Insider.
The actor added, “They’ve always found ways to keep me a part of the storylines, and that’s something that means the world to me.”
