Jada and Rafe Call It Quits for Good as Shawn Gets Bad News About Bo
Brady’s in the pub, staring at his phone and Ava’s contact when Paulina stops in and asks if he’s gotten news about his dad. None yet. Paulina then brings up the adoption and they both agree this is best for everyone.
Gabi’s explaining to Rafe why she spent $15,000 on a date with Alex, and admits it’s impulsive, especially since Xander and Philip may put her out of a job soon. If she doesn’t walk away first. She’s got a tough choice to make.
So does Rafe. He tells Gabi that Jada asked him to meet at the station. He’s not sure she’s forgiven him yet, though. Gabi hopes they find their way back to each other, then heads out to the office.
As soon as she’s gone, Rafe gets down to business with his laptop and recording device — but there’s no memory card in it.
Brady Shoots Down Gabi’s Request
Gabi’s in her office on the phone with Javi, furious over Xander undermining her. She gets off the phone and tosses the “Titan Employee Manual” across the room, hitting Brady just as he walks in.
She unleashes all her frustrations on Brady, and when he tries calming her down, she just yells even more. But he had a Gabi Chic/Basic Black collab idea, and Gabi realizes he might be able to help her out.
He can talk Xander and Philip into letting her buy the rights back to Gabi Chic. They have Basic Black, so they don’t need two fashion brands. They’ll listen because he’s family. “Why do you think I would go out of my way to help you?” Brady demands.
He hasn’t forgiven her and Stefan for double crossing him in getting custody of Rachel. Besides, he’s got too much going on with his family. “Suck it up and stick it out.”
Jada and Rafe Break Up
Jada and Shawn compare notes on the shooting, talking about how suspicious Ava is right now. Shawn heads to the hospital to question EJ, while Jada says Rafe’s stopping by to talk. She then tells Shawn about Rafe and Sami.
He leaves and, shortly after, Rafe shows up to talk. He and Jada sit down, where she tells him she doesn’t think they have a relationship anymore. She doesn’t think they can move forward from this. “I don’t think that we knew each other as well as I thought we did.” Rafe admits maybe too much happened, but he wants to fight for them.
They had beautiful times, Jada says, but the trust was broken and that can’t be undone. EJ’s to blame for a lot, but they were on shaky ground before that. Like how her taking his old job changed something with them. They both still love each other, but it’s over.
Rafe tells Jada she means the world to him, but maybe it is the best to take a break for now. He’s going to resign from Black Patch. He got a call to take an out of town position from his old boss. He’s going to accept the offer. They both sadly say they’ll miss each other and hug goodbye.
EJ and Belle Proclaim Their Love
In his hospital bed, EJ’s thinking about the electronic device back home as Belle shows up. He pivots to asking if her feelings are real, and Belle readily admits she loves him. That gets tears from EJ and, after some teasing from Belle, he says Kayla informed him that Kayla warned him his emotions could be running rampant after the trauma of the shooting due to physiology changes.
He hopes they don’t fade away with time. He’s realized how terrible he’s been and doesn’t want that to be his legacy, like it was his father’s. He claims to have had an epiphany right before being shot, as he realized everyone — including his son — hated him.
He feels so guilty about ruining the adoption, but Belle tells him the good news that it’s going through after all. Provided, she slowly admits, that EJ has nothing to do with the baby’s care. He and Johnny can have a relationship, she says, but it can’t involve the child.
EJ can’t bear the thought of Johnny cutting him out of his life forever, but Belle tells him they’ll work it out. He thanks her for being there and saying she loves him, which Shawn walks in to hear.
He clears his throat as they stare, then says he has questions. Belle squeezes EJ’s hand as Shawn glares, then leaves. EJ politely asks what Shawn wants to know, which is if he has any memory of Ava that night. No, but he’s still got gaps.
He saw her the night before and had a “contentious” encounter — and she threatened him.
Shawn heads back to the station to fill Jada in. She’s visibly emotional and tells him about breaking things off with Rafe. Maybe they should take a late lunch, Shawn says. At his place. Jada’s all for it.
Johnny Admits His Doubts to Belle
Johnny’s looking for a job, but he seems much less enthused about it than Chanel as he tells her. He can’t find a permanent gig. But Chanel thinks it might be good to not start a new job until after the baby arrives. She’s over the moon and Johnny just nods awkwardly. Chanel thinks it’s about EJ waking up.
He assures her wants nothing to do with his dad. Chanel shrugs that off saying she doesn’t want anything messing up the adoption, so it may be for the best. Chanel’s just over the moon saying that once Johnny signs the papers, it’ll be done, and rushes out in joy. When she’s gone, Johnny just leans over the table and sighs.
Chanel meets with Paulina at the pub to talk about finding a place for themselves, both of them thrilled that Chanel finally gets to be a mom. Johnny, meanwhile, checks the news on the shooting developments before Belle arrives with the adoption papers. But Johnny can’t sign them. He talks to his aunt about how much finding out about his conception screwed up his whole sense of self. “I’m not sure I’m ready to be a father.”
Belle understands, but that doesn’t mean he’ll never be ready. What if his parents’ toxic relationship and bad behavior is genetic, and he’ll be a bad parent. Belle reassures him that being honest with himself and taking time is completely OK, but he needs to be honest with Chanel. She’ll come back if he’s ready, then gives Johnny a hug.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Paulina and Chanel get home with baby clothes, leaving Johnny a bit speechless. He smiles and nods awkwardly. Belle heads back over to the hospital, where EJ tells her about the Ava theory. Then he apologizes for outting her love in front of Shawn — and Belle breaks the news that Sami knows how she feels too. “Oh.” Yeah, she didn’t take it well.
EJ chuckles, holds her hand and says he knows she’ll get lots of heat for loving him, but looking in her eyes, he knows she can handle it. Yeah. He’s in her head and her heart. Big same, EJ says.
Belle admits she hasn’t forgiven him for all the pain he’s caused her loved ones, but she loves him, thinks people can change and thinks she can help him change. “By saying that you love me, it makes me want to be a better man.”
She hopes she’ll never be put in a position of wearing a wire again, and EJ assures her she won’t. Then he thinks back to discovering Rafe’s camera and removing the memory card. N the present, he says he’s glad they can finally be honest with each other.
Rafe gets home and tells Gabi that it’s over. She hugs him and tells him how sorry she is. But maybe they just need time apart. “Sure. Maybe. I dunno.” He asks her if she knows anything about a missing memory card from a camera. Nope, that’s odd, though.
Back at Shawn’s, he fills Jada in on the latest Belle/EJ drama. He gets a call from Hope. “What do you mean you have bad news? Wait, what happened to dad?”
