Did Days of Our Lives’ EJ Really Just Remember His Shooter — Plus, Is He About to Save… Bo?!
Bo’s dying, John’s missing, EJ’s recovering memories and Johnny just blew up the lives of numerous families. As Days of Our Lives heads into May Sweeps, it seems like their big stories are all about to come crashing into each other.
Elementary, My Dear Johnny
I was going to say that the video of Johnny pointing the gun at EJ was proof that he didn’t shoot him. EJ found the camera before his shooting and removed the card, so the murder attempt wasn’t recorded.
But then EJ recovered his memory. He removed the card just as Johnny came into the room. The timing was… not good for Johnny. And looking ahead to next week, EJ’s going to be protecting Johnny — probably because he believes his son did try to kill him. Still, I feel like this is another fake out. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked.
While EJ did ask Johnny “What are you doing?” just like he asked before getting shot, it was in a totally different tone than what we’d seen the night of the actual shooting.
Also, there’s no glass. EJ was fiddling with the camera and memory card when Johnny walked in, not drinking the whiskey that he dropped to the floor. Plus, he pocketed the card in his memory, but he had to have time before getting shot to put it in the drawer, instead. If EJ shot him right then, the card would still be in his jacket when he came out of his coma. So yeah, this Johnny reveal is a good fake out, but a fake out nonetheless.
In the end, unless Johnny returned later to surprise EJ again, I think we actually just got the reason to eliminate him as a suspect. But hey, the fact that I get to play detective like this and analyze everything is, I’ve got to admit, fun. Take that, true crime documentaries!
But, er, admittedly, that doesn’t get me any closer to figuring out who actually did do it… I’m wondering how much what ends up happening lines up with the original intent since the writing team changed halfway through this story. And new headwriters Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford said they had fun adding and removing suspects as it all comes to a head.
Even better? I think they’re about to weave EJ’s big story into the other two percolating right now: Bo and Hope’s return and John’s death.
Weaving the Big Stories Together
According to what we got for May Sweeps preview, the new (likely temporary) kinder, gentler EJ’s going to try buying the hospital and saving it from bankruptcy. On top of that, next week’s teasers have him confronting Dr. Russell with his “intentions.”
If EJ really wants to turn over a new leaf, he could end up buying the hospital and pressuring Russell into saving Bo’s life — freeing Steve and Shawn from having to commit a felony. (I think stealing the drug would be a felony? I dunno.)
Granted, risking a drug that could save millions of people to save one would be… morally dubious. But EJ’s heart might be in the right place and he’s still a bit new to these morals. Maybe he could somehow fast track the human studies portion of drug development to keep things, more or less, on the up and up.
Hope could move Bo back to Salem for treatment, and he could recover from sepsis, only to suffer organ failure. And that’s where John’s final heroic death would come in, like I laid out earlier in the week. EJ gets to play hero saving the hospital, saving Bo and convincing Belle and the rest of her and Bo’s family that he really is deserving of another chance.
