Trapped and 𝙳𝚢𝚒𝚗𝚐? Galen Gering’s Horrific Experience Far From Home! DOOL Spoiler

On Sunday, Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez) from Days of Our Lives (DOOL) guest-starred on the State of Mind podcast. Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) from General Hospital (GH) had a long chat, and at one stage, Gering talked about how he nearly died very far from home.

A Very Scary Incident

The conversation between the two daytime drama stars started off lightly, but then ventured on and became a bit serious. Gering has a way with words and he dished a lot of stories. The tale about him nearly losing his life arrived after he and Benard talked about Steve Burton and not judging people by their initial impression.

Much younger than he is now, Gering was busy making commercials, and he modeled a lot. Most people might envy him as he’d only just graduated high school when he landed a gig modeling with an Italian company in Tunisia.

Not realizing that not everyone loves Americans, when filming in a small village, someone asked him where he came from. Gering said that he hailed “from Los Angeles.” Asked again, he confirmed it.

Well, Gering said that the man went a bit crazy, yelling and shouting, “America! We hate! We kill Americans!” And then he nearly died.

Near To Death

The real-life Rafe Hernandez nearly never got to act his DOOL role because a crowd formed around him. The then-18-year-old model described how the next few minutes were terrifying:

They start banging like on pots and they’re like, ‘Kill, kill!” And I’m like, ‘What happened?’ I’m like 18 years old, what is even going on? And some guy, some like little pudgy guy comes up, he’s like, ‘Come, come, come with me, come.’”

For a moment, things flashed through Galen Gering’s mind, like how he’d heard of people being “drugged and then like sold into slavery.” He explained how he thought, “Oh my god, this is it, this is how it happens, like this is literally happening right now.”

Chaos erupted, and the crew quickly started packing up. More people arrived, running to get to him. He’d mentioned that the time was close to when the USA killed Gaddafi’s son in Libya, which borders on Tunisia. So, anti-American feelings were very high.

The daytime drama star went on, describing the crowd as “hostile,” like a “wasp nest, like mob mentality.” So, it didn’t take a lot of persuading for Galen to go with the pudgy little guy. They ran away to some other place, and the Tunisian told him to lie down, which he did. Then, he threw a lot of “carpets on top of” him.

The Narrow Escape

Maurice Benard listened to the rest of the scary story without interrupting. Gering told the GH star, “I hid under a pile of carpets… for like 15 minutes and then he like whisked me out some back way.”

On top of that, Galen Gering said that the crew turned on him, saying they wouldn’t work with him anymore. When he questioned that, he was told, “This is no good, you’re in trouble for this thing.” Ending his tale of nearly being killed, Galen said, “We had to go to some like remote place.”

The chat about his experience in Tunisia starts at the 29.17 marker in the video below.
