Sister Wives: “No Way Out!”: Kody’s Stuck With Robyn Forever (Did She Set Him Up To Get Into A Monogamous Relationship?)
Sister Wives star Kody Brown may not have found his “happily ever after” with his wife Robyn Brown. Kody was in a polygamous marriage with Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Christine Brown when Sister Wives first aired in 2010.
The first season documented Kody and Robyn’s courtship and marriage. Robyn was younger than Kody’s other wives and had a very different appearance, with a slim figure and dark brown hair. Robyn demanded Kody’s attention from the beginning, and her addition to the Browns’ plural marriage created a seismic shift in the family dynamic.
Once Robyn joined the family as the fourth wife, Kody’s other relationships began to suffer. Kody spent less time with his other wives as he started to prioritize Robyn.
Eventually, Kody’s other wives had enough. Christine announced the end of her marriage to Kody in November 2021, followed by Janelle in December 2022 and Meri in January 2023. Kody and Robyn now have a monogamous marriage.
While monogamy may have been Robyn’s goal all along, their romance may not have a fairy tale ending.
Robyn frequently guilted Kody into prioritizing her because of her young children. Kody slowly began spending more time with Robyn than with his other wives under the guise that Robyn’s children needed him
Kody’s efforts for Robyn were disproportionate and neglected Janelle and Christine, who each had six children with him.
Christine’s daughter, Truely Brown, was only a year older than Robyn’s son, Solomon Brown. Kody once said he helped get Robyn’s kids ready for school in the morning, which Christine noted he had never done for her children.
As Kody’s older children became adults, his relationships with them grew strained. Kody argued with Janelle’s sons, Garrison Brown and Gabriel Brown, about social distancing rules during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He eventually became estranged from Garrison and Gabriel, which played a large role in the breakdown of his marriage to Janelle.
Although Kody claimed the COVID rules were his idea, the rest of the family saw through his lie. They knew Robyn was the one who insisted on social distancing to keep Kody at her house, with the safety of her young children as her excuse.
Robyn showed her manipulative side when she convinced Meri to legally divorce Kody in Sister Wives season 8. Meri’s divorce would allow Kody to wed Robyn, paving the way for him to adopt Robyn’s three children.
Although Kody was spiritually married to all of his wives and maintained that legal marriage held no superiority, Meri’s divorce was incredibly painful for her.
Robyn feigned sympathy for Meri, but her goal was to secure her future with Kody. Once Robyn became Kody’s legal wife, she shared control of the family’s assets, a prospect that worried Janelle and Christine.
As Kody’s marriages to Christine and Janelle fell apart, Robyn aligned herself with Meri. Kody’s marriage to Meri had been strained for years, and the romantic aspect of their relationship was nonexistent. Still, Meri stayed with the family out of loyalty.
Robyn continued to spend time with Meri, telling her she had to stay with Kody to hold the family together. However, when Meri finally decided to leave Kody, she called Robyn out for her act. Meri saw how Robyn had played both sides and guilted Meri into staying while also monopolizing Kody’s time.
While Kody and Robyn insist they will remain married for the long haul, evidence suggests otherwise. The realities of monogamy may be settling in. Robyn has driven away her sister wives and discovered that without them as allies, she is forced to manage Kody by herself.
During the Sister Wives special documenting Christine’s wedding to David Woolley, Kody and Robyn’s interview segments seemed tense and uncomfortable. Furthermore, as Robyn’s children grow older, Kody will likely continue his pattern of being an absent father, which may irreparably damage his relationship with Robyn.
Because Kody has sacrificed everything for Robyn, he would be left with nothing if his last remaining marriage ended.
Kody’s estranged from many of his children, he lost the wives who helped him build his family, and Sister Wives viewers have turned against Kody and Robyn after seeing how they alienated the rest of their family. Kody sacrificed his family and popularity for Robyn, and he may realize she’s not worth the cost.
